INTRO TO BRANDING

I won’t bore you with stories or Google-copied content, but I will give some practical definitions and examples.

What is Brand?

Branding is a process of creating a business, personal, corporate identity, which involves creating a specific name, logo, tagline and an image of a particular product, service or company.

Your brand is your identity, which is why it must be designed to represent what your business, service or company does and stands for.

A brand should attract customers, and must be visible enough to ring a bell in people’s mind anytime they see it.

Though it takes consistent effort to achieve this, through value delivery and advertising, a brand becomes known.

Brand is the perceived emotional and ideal corporate image of a company, business or service.

Must-haves to design a reputable Brand

1. Identity: The visual aspects that form part of the overall brand.

2. Logo: Identifies a business in its simplest form via the use of a mark or icon.

3. Tagline: This may be optional but it helps people know what to expect from you.

Different ways to display Brands

I will use Apple Inc as an example

1. Identity/logo/Icon Only

The bitten Apple: This is what you see on all Apple products such MacBook, iPhone etc.

2. Company Name + Identity/logo/icon

e.g the bitten apple + Apple

3.  Identity/Logo/Icon + Name + Tagline

e.g. Identity – Bitten Apple. Mac Pro – Product Name. Beauty Outside beast Inside – tagline.

From the example above, you can clearly see that Apple Inc identity/logo carries value and can stand alone. It also makes sense even with the company or product name and then, it works even with tagline.

Every professional brand must have these three similarities.

A LOGO MUST HAVE
1. Icon/Identity
2. Brand/Company
3. Tagline/Motto/Slogan
